HELPIS Will Hold Fundraiser this Thursday at Flatbread Company Bedford to Continue Ongoing Support for the Residents of the Lord Baron Apartment Complex

HELPIS, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization built on the goal of creating a community of equals who provide whatever kindnesses they are able to the people they encounter in an ever-widening network of generosity, is pleased to announce that it will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Flatbread Company in Bedford, MA. The proceeds of this event will be used to support the more than 85 residents of the Lord Baron Apartments in Burlington, who were left homeless following a fire in the complex on October 23, 2013.

Working with a number of local organizations, businesses, and the town of Burlington, HELPIS has helped facilitate the fulfillment of temporary housing, hot meals, gift cards, clothing, household items, Christmas gifts, and more to the displaced residents since the fire. While most of the residents have been able to return to the complex, many are still in the process of rebuilding their lives after this horrible event. With this in mind, HELPIS has committed to help the residents through the rebuilding process and beyond. The funds raised from the event at Flatbread Company Bedford will help sustain HELPIS’ support services. Flatbread Company Bedford will be donating $3.50 from every large pizza purchase and $1.75 from every small pizza purchase, including curbside and takeout.

“This has been an unbelievable experience for me,” said Joyce Deliyiannis, President of HELPIS. “I have seen so many examples of goodness and pureness. The last few months have only amplified the fact that people can be kind, selfless, and giving without expecting anything in return. Today, I feel so much richer, satisfied, and complete than I thought I was before. I am honored to have had this opportunity. The residents of Lord Baron have given me the gift of giving by opening themselves up and allowing me to give what I could to them. Additionally, I am very proud of all the people who I am surrounded by in this community. It is truly amazing the things that can be done when a community comes together to help its members.”

“We are very excited and grateful to be working with the Flatbread Company for this exciting benefit event,” said HELPIS Treasurer Robin Rees Tyrie. “This event is a great opportunity for HELPIS to demonstrate what we’re all about while supporting a fantastic, generous local business. We encourage all current and new friends of HELPIS to come out to show their support for the residents of Lord Baron and enjoy some delicious Flatbread pizza.”

HELPIS will be at Flatbread Company Bedford, located at 213 Burlington Rd. in Bedford, MA, on Thursday, January 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. Flatbread Company is a full-service restaurant that serves mostly organic, wood-fired pizza. Flatbread has a commitment to source local and organic foods whenever possible, while giving back to the community through benefits and sponsorship. Part of the Flatbread Company mission is to support local organizations that have an impact on the local community. The primary way that they accomplish this is through the benefit nights that are held at each of the restaurants.

For those who cannot attend the fundraiser but would like to contribute to our ongoing support of the residents of Lord Baron, you can make an online donation to HELPIS via our website http://helpis.org/; click on the “Donate Now” button.

HELPIS was founded by Joyce Deliyiannis, who believes that kindness has the power to bring hope to those searching for it and by extension, change lives. During the Month of May, HELPIS challenges people to help someone in need without asking for anything in return as a reminder that even simple acts of kindness can heal, uplift, inspire, and improve the lives of others.
