Who is Burlington's Unofficial Mayor?

Who makes a big impact in the Burlington community?

Burlington may not have an actual mayor, but the town does have many people who help make the community great.

We at Burlington Patch thought one of those people should be acknowledged as the Unofficial Mayor of Burlington. Who should it be? That's where you come in. We are asking readers to make suggestions for who you think should be honored with the role of Unofficial Mayor.

The Unofficial Mayor could be someone who volunteers their time, a member of the business community, a teacher or educator or anyone who is involved in the community. You know who makes this community great and we want to hear about them!

We do have two rules. First, anyone who is a current office holder cannot become the Unofficial Mayor. This means no members of the Board of Selectmen, Ways & Means or Planning Board, for example, nor can the Town Administrator, Town Clerk, Treasurer, etc. cannot be nominated. Members of un-elected volunteer boards and Town Meeting members can be nominated.

Secondly, our most important rule is to keep it positive. After we get nominations we are going to ask people to vote and comment why they think their candidate should be elected. We ask readers to offer any positive thoughts on their nominee but to refrain from posting anything negative about any of the other candidates. Any negative comments will be deleted.

So, with that said, who do you think should be Burlington's Unofficial Mayor? Let us know your nominations in the comments section below

I'll second either Sonia Rollins or Al Fay. It's clear that both love the town and have done a lot to make it a nicer place.

Jack Ferren without a doubt.....being a burlington resident since 1968 I have never met anyone who cares about burlington more than Jack.

After posting my support for Jack Ferren on Facebook by linking to this poll I realized I didn't show my support on the Patch. Leading through volunteering his time and energy to the people of our town, his committment and ongoing effort and energy make Jack our unofficial mayor!

Roger Morrison has been a resource for numerous athletes. I have never met anyone who cares more about our youth than Roger. He has done this in more than one sport for more years to count and countinues past retirement, past health issues and will for as long as he can.

Nobody in town has a kinder heart than David Norden. He tirelessly gives, gives and gives back to the community. He is all about about the children. Even though he is not one that would want to be under the spotlight. He desreves to be recognized.........

There have been some terrific nominations for Unofficial Mayor. But when considering involvement in all areas and for the number of years of involvement, the name that has to come to mind is Jack Ferren. No matter what event I attend I can usually find Jack Ferren involved hosting or behind the scenes.

Although I'm a former Burlington Resident.... I must also echo the nominations for Jack Ferren. Jack has been involved in everything for as long as I can remember. Not only is he an incredible asset to the Burlington community for so so many reasons, he's also a genuinely great guy.

I too am a former Burlington resident and Jack Ferren is Burlington's unofficial Mayor!

I would like to cast my vote for Joyce Deliyiannis. I met Joyce three years ago after becoming unemployed. Not only did Joyce give me complimentary haircuts, she gave me encouragement and reassurance throughout a difficult time in my life. She continues to give of herself unselfishly in her crusade to help others
JIm Sorenson March 08, 2012 at 01:34 PM
Agree with the vote for Jack Ferren
Al Sciuto March 08, 2012 at 04:05 PM
AL I will cast a vote for Jack Ferren. He is always there, involved, and participating in Town function and causes. I would even hold a sign for him.
