Scrabble Tournament

Twenty-one eager students (entering grades 4-8) came to the Burlington Public Library on Saturday afternoon, August 16 to compete in a 3-game Scrabble Tournament.  They had registered in teams of 2 and teams were randomly picked to face each other in the first game.  There were 7 teams from the Burlington Library Scrabble Club, 2 teams from the Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood, 1 team from the Sage School in Foxboro and 1 team from Westford.  Since there were an odd number of teams, one team each round sat out.  That team received a Bye which gave them an automatic win and a +50 point spread for that round.  For the second and third rounds, scores were tallied and then those who had a similar point spread faced each other for the next game.  In between games students enjoyed snacks that were provided by the Friends of the Burlington Library.

The top three teams received prizes, and a good sportsmanship prize was given to one team member, a 4th grader who had played alone since her partner was not able to make it that day.

Congratulations to all who participated and to the top three teams:

  • Adil Sageer and Souleiman Benhida (Burlington) - first place
  • Nihal Sageer and Brianna Abruzzese  (Burlington) – second place
  •  Santi Alvarez and Jordan Dowd (Sage School/Foxboro) – third place

Just a reminder that storytimes are between sessions.  The new sessions will begin the week of September 17.
