MA Tops Daycare Costs List: What Do You Pay in Burlington?

Bay State residents pay an average $14,980 per year, according to the study, and as percentage of state median income for a two-parent family, Massachusetts ranks as the ninth most expensive state in the country at 14.2 percent. New York tops the list at 15.9 percent and has the second highest costs at $14,009.

Putting that percentage in context, the study says that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommends that parents spend no more than 10 percent of their family income on child care.

If you're a single mom in Massachusetts, it's even worse, with child care costs taking up 53.6 percent of the median income of a single-mother family.
