The Burlington Public Library has a bunch of upcoming events and accounts of past events residents can check out. The following is a press release listing what has happened, is currently happening and what is coming soon.
The Library will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will remain closed until Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Please note that the book drops are heavily used during this time span. If the drop is full, please hold on to your items and return them when we open again. Also, keep in mind that until the item is checked in when we open again it is the responsibility of the person that has checked it out.
Last Wednesday Book Discussion -November 28, 7-8:30 pm
The book chosen for this month is “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. Valentina Kalatcheva will guide the discussion of this now classic story set in Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement. The story demonstrates the indomitable will of human beings to survive against fearsome odds. Millions of readers have cheered on Skeeter, laughed with Minny, and hissed at Hilly. The noble and strong Aibileen has become a heroine for countless fans. This is the book on which the movie was based. Come and tell us what YOU thought of it!
Museum Pass Policy Change
The “Friends of the Burlington Public Library” sponsor passes to area museums and attractions. I’m sure many of you have borrowed these extremely popular passes from the Library. Some of the attractions and museums have switched to a paper pass system that does not need to be returned to the Library, but some still have the single pass that must be returned. There is almost always someone waiting for these passes so it is critical that they be returned on time. When the pass is late someone else is denied the opportunity to enjoy this benefit. Most often this is not a problem, but for the rare occasions when it does occur, it has a big impact. As a result, the fee for returning the pass late has been increased to $10.00. Please take note of whether the pass needs to be returned, and if so, the time that it is required to be back when you pick it up to avoid this fee.
