Board of Health Holding Universal Waste Collection

The Board of Health has announced the 2013 dates for universal waste collection with the first session being held next week.

The following is a release posted on the Burlington Board of Health's site:

The Universal Waste Collection Events for Burlington businesses are scheduled for the following Mondays in 2013:

  • Monday, January 28
  • Monday, April 29
  • Monday, July 29
  • Monday, September 30

All events are held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m in the parking lot of the Burlington Human Services Building, which is located at 61 Center Street, Burlington, MA. Materials are collected by the vendor, CRS, for a fee. The Board of Health is offering this collection event in an effort to assist you in complying with the Massachusetts Universal Waste Regulations and other state regulations that ban recyclable materials from being disposed of in state incinerators and landfills.

Materials that will be accepted for recycling and proper disposal include the following:

  • Fluorescent lights (straight, U-tubes and circline)
  • Mercury and Metal Halide Lamps
  • Mercury, lead-acid, Nickel/cadmium and lithium containing batteries
  • PCB and non-PCB ballasts
  • Mercury in Manufactured Article
  • Electrical Equipment (Cathode ray tubes, computer monitors, televisions, computer and electronic equipment)

If you wish to participate, please pre-register with CRS, the recycling vendor, one week before the scheduled event. CRS can be reached at 508-402-7700 ext. 705.
