5T: Ides of March Concert, Myanmar Discussion and a Jazz Concert at the Library

Today is Thursday, Feb. 28. Here are 5 things you need to know:

• Rain: Looks like another messy day today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect rain and snow showers this morning which will become all rain after 8 a.m. with patchy fog. Otherwise it will be cloudy with a high near 47 degrees. Rain expected tonight before 10 p.m. followed by a 70 percent chance of snow. Precipitation of a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible. Overnight low around 32 degrees. 

• Public meetings: The Board of Assessors is meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex hearing room. The Conservation Commission is meeting at 7 p.m. in the main hearing room at Town Hall.

• Ides of March Concert: The Burlington High School Band and Chorus will present their annual "Ides of March" concert, Thursday evening at 7:30 this evening in the Burlington High School cafeteria (located at the back of the building). The concert is free and open to everyone.

• Great decisions - Myanmar and SE Asia: The Burlington Public Library is hosting a "Great Decisions 2013: Myanmar and Southeast Asia" discussion at 10:30 a.m. today. The discussions will be led by Dr. Craig Brandt, a former naval officer who has been a professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology and dean of academic affairs at the Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management. Adults of all levels of knowledge and background are welcome to attend.

• Burlington Reads Jazz: The Library is also holding a Burlington Reads event "Wartime Swing" with Sinti Rhythm at 6 p.m. Sinti Rhythm is an acoustic quartet that performs an exotic hybrid of hot jazz and Gypsy swing music of the kind played by Django Reinhardt, Le Quintette du Hot Club de France, and the Sinti Musicians of Europe. The concert is to get everyone into a "Burlington Reads mood" and is free and open to everyone.
