  • Showers likely: Looks like a potentially wet one today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect possibly showers this morning and then likely showers this afternoon. Otherwise cloudy with a high near 75 degrees. Showers likely tonight with a low around 67. 
  • First day of school: Today is the first day of the 2012/13 year. Be aware when driving about today that students will be walking to school and waiting at bus stops. 
  • Public meeting: The Burlington Board of Selectmen is meeting for a special session at 5 p.m. this evening in the main hearing room on the second floor of . On the agenda is a look at the September Town Meeting Warrant.
  • New career help: The is hosting a  program from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today. This is a networking and workshop dedicated to providing a 'roadmap to re-employment' for transitioning professionals. It is free and all are welcome.
  • A moment like this: On this day in 2002, 20-year-old Kelly Clarkson won over the hearts of music lovers everywhere... but most importantly, she won over Simon Cowell and the other American Idol judges. Clarkson was named the first American Idol and won a recording contract.
