• Open house: Burlington's is hosting an from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today for any interested prospective students. Check out the facilities, meet some of the staff and even play around on some instruments. 

• Home games: Burlington High School has a variety of home games today. The varsity girls field hockey team is playing Wakefield Memorial at 3:30 p.m. at the school. The girls varsity swim team is racing Melrose High at 4 p.m. at Shawsheen Tech. and the girls varsity soccer team is playing Wakefield Memorial at 6 p.m. at the school.

• If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?: On this day in 1977, three members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plane crash that also killed three others. The band’s plane, which was originally bypassed by Aerosmith amid concerns about the flight crew, crashed in the Mississippi woods during a trip to Louisiana. According to investigations after the crash, the plane ran out of fuel and air traffic control was only notified about 13 minutes before the gas ran out. The band’s famous question, asked in the hit “Free Bird,” was answered by legions of fans that continue to listen to the band today.
