  • Morning showers: Looks like today will start a bit wet, but won't be like yesterday's heavy rains. According to the National Weather Service we can expect a chance of showers, mainly before 10 a.m. It will be cloudy, with fog, later in the morning before gradually becoming clear. High temperature near 68 degrees. Partly cloudy tonight with a low around 49. 
  • Public meeting: The Burlington at 7:30 p.m. this evening in the hearing room on the second floor of  
  • Open house: Burlington's is hosting an from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today for any interested prospective students. Check out the facilities, meet some of the staff and even play around on some instruments. 
  • If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?: On this day in 1977, three members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plane crash that also killed three others. The band’s plane, which was originally bypassed by Aerosmith amid concerns about the flight crew, crashed in the Mississippi woods during a trip to Louisiana. According to investigations after the crash, the plane ran out of fuel and air traffic control was only notified about 13 minutes before the gas ran out. The band’s famous question, asked in the hit “Free Bird,” was answered by legions of fans that continue to listen to the band today.
