Showers and thunderstorms possible before 2 p.m., a concert on the commons and word games at the library.

Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

Today is Tuesday, July 24. Here are 5 things you need to know:

  • Chance of showers, otherwise sunny: Looks like another mixed bag today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Otherwise mostly sunny with a high near 88 degrees. Mostly clear tonight with a low around 60.
  • Public meetings: The Burlington Board of Health is meeting at 7 p.m. this evening in the main hearing room at Town Hall.
  • Concert on the Commons: The dance band "Jump 'N' Jive Review" will be performing at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Commons. Event sponsored by the Burlington Rotary Club.
  • Word game: The is hosting a event for students entering grades 4 to 8 at 3:30 p.m. today. No registration required. Come down, hang out with friends and meet new people and play Scrabble.
  • I pity the fool who doesn't like this song!: On this day in 1982, the song "Eye of the Tiger" hit number one on the Billboard pop chart and held on for six weeks. Now fondly remembered as a cheesey, if not rocking, song by Survivor, the single catapulted Rocky III into movie history as one of those films with an inspiring scene set to music. The movie starred Sylvester Stallone as Rocky and Mr. T (of "I pity the fool!" fame) as his opponent. "Eye of the Tiger" was the only number one hit for Survivor.
