Today is Thursday, Feb. 3. Here are 5 things you need to know:

• No snow, if you can believe it: The big news of the day is that according to the National Weather Service, today is supposed to be ... wait for it ... partly sunny! Temperatures are going to be in the mid to high 20s which won't do much to melt the snow, but at least we aren't getting more.

• The day the music died: On this day in 1959, a small-plane crash in Iowa killed three famous musicians—Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. The three men, along with the pilot, were killed instantly when the plane crashed in a cornfield. Authorities reported the cause of the crash as weather conditions, along with operator error by the pilot. The men were performing in “The Winter Dance Party” tour and decided to fly to their next stop because their tour bus’ heating system had broken down. The flight took off just before 1 a.m. and was reported missing around 3:30 a.m. By 9:15 a.m., the wreckage and the bodies of the musicians were found in the cornfield, just five miles northwest of the airport where the plane took off from.
