Reading Co-operative Bank collected more than 200 blankets for Mission of Deeds of Reading.

Reading, MA – Recently, Reading Co-operative Bank wrapped up their first annual blanket drive to benefit Mission of Deeds.  The committee set a goal of collecting 200 blankets and thanks to the generosity of the community, that goal was exceed.  Maureen Bernard and Judy MacLellan, co-chairs of the blanket drive committee, saw a need in the community and immediately went to work on finding a solution, and thus the first annual blanket drive was created.

 

“We are so happy that the blanket drive was such a success.  We want to thank everyone who donated to the drive, it is such a great feeling knowing that we live and work in such giving communities that will stand up and help those in need.  We would also like to thank the Reading Co-operative Foundation for donating fifty blankets,” says Maureen Bernard, Vice President and Judy MacLellan, Senior Commercial Lending Assistant, Co-Chairs of the Blanket Drive Committee.

 

The Mission of Deeds is a non-profit organization staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers who are located in Reading, Massachusetts. They purchase beds with cash donations and distribute them, along with donated furniture and other household items in good condition, to needy families and individuals living in Middlesex and Essex counties of Massachusetts.  Since their inception in 1993, they have provided assistance to more than 7,000 families who have been referred by social service agencies such as shelters, elder care agencies, and hospitals. Recipients of assistance include individuals and families from diverse ethnic, religious, cultural and racial backgrounds.
