"Kid-tography" - Children's Photography Workshop

“Kid-tography”

In their new workshop designed for children between the ages of 8 and 15, internationally award winning photography team Randy and Caroline Brogen and their partner, Dan Wims help young “Shutterbugs” learn how to make the best photos they can with light and their digital camera in this fun, hands-on course where they’ll learn about their camera, its settings as well as basic photography terms and concepts.

Photography begins with light…Light is critical to creating images. The approach taken by many photographers is to shine light onto their subject, but in this course Randy, Dan and Caroline want the Shutterbugs to think of photography as "painting a picture" – their picture – with light. Once everyone “gets the picture” about their equipment and its capabilities in the classroom, Randy, Dan and Caroline will take them out on a mini photo safari to apply what they’ve learned. They finish up the day back in the studio to get feedback on their images to help see what worked and where a little more light needs to be shed.

2. Meet Your Camera - We review your camera body, viewfinder and lens(es). We'll explore your camera's settings, learn what the various icons mean and what the different dials do, as well as explore the LCD screen on the back of your camera and discuss ways it can help you capture better photos.

3. Camera Modes - We will identify the various shooting options available with your camera and when you may want to use each.

4. Exposure Triangle - Photography is all about light, and so is exposure. We will talk about The Three Amigos… Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed… their roles in photography and how the three interact to capture images, as well as what happens when there’s too much or not enough light.

5. Story Telling - We will help you identify the point of interest/focal point in your images and introduce some rules of composition to better convey to the viewers of your photos what you see through the lens.

6. Perspective – How you view your subject is a powerful thing in photographs. We will talk about what changing your position and/or focal length might do for your photos.

7. Basic Do's and Don'ts in Picture Taking - Many people are disappointed with their photographs because they don't seem to come out the way they remember the scene. Learn to "see" the same way the camera does.  With some standard Do's and Don'ts to keep in mind whenever and wherever you're photographing.

8. Hands-on Photo Safari – Use your cameras to photograph different scenarios in our indoor/outdoor studios.

9. Image Discussion –Images from your photo safari will be reviewed and feedback provided by the instructors.
