Wegman's Set to Break Ground in Burlington

The store is set to open in 2014.

The much-aniticipated Wegman's in Burlington's Northwest Park is set to begin the next stage of construction.

According to bizjournal.com, the Rochester, N.Y. based company is set to break ground on Third Avenue on Oct. 16.

As reported on Burlington Patch, in July Jo Natale, Director of Media Relations for Wegman's, the company expected the work on the parcel to be completed this September. At that point the company would be able to begin the second phase of site work with the expectation that construction on the new store will begin in the Spring of 2013. There is no date set for completion but Natale said the grand opening will be in 2014.

Wegman's, which has signed a 30 year lease with options to renew, is planning to build a 135,000 square foot facility with adjacent parking for 800 vehicles. The plans include a 14,000 square foot mezzanine overlooking a food court, an outdoor café and outdoor cooking classes.  Patrons will be able to enter and exit Wegman’s from Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue or from Network Drive via Second Avenue.

The high-end grocery store will feature a wide variety of food options. As reported on bizjournal.com, Wegman's typically carry over 70,000 products including hundreds of varieties of fruit and cheese and roughly 2,500 types of wine.

I left Rochester 40 years ago. They keep following me around! Here's hoping they bring white hot dogs, a Rochester regional favorite, to Boston.
