Patch Snap: Oracles Presents Burlington PD With Donation for Road Safety

Patch Snap is an occasional post that features pictures from around Burlington or Burlington residents out and about.

Welcome to another edition of Patch Snap, where we highlight a picture or pictures of around Burlington or of Burlington residents out and about.

Today's Patch Snap comes from the Burlington Police Department, which states:

The Burlington Police Department recently received a donation from Oracle located at 10 Van de-Graaff Drive in Burlington.  Building site manager Kathy Juliano representing Oracle USA Community Partners Corporate Citizenship Organization presented Chief Michael R. Kent with a check totaling $10,400.

A portion of funds will be used to purchase 3 ”state of the art” radar units which will be used enforce posted speed limits and help reduce vehicle crashes on Burlington roadways.

Also to be funded with this donation will be a program on the dangers of texting while driving.  This program will be run in conjunction with Burlington High School and will focus on the dangers this presents.   This campaign will be run in stages that will allow officers from the Traffic Division to talk with the students and educate them about the current laws and how they relate to the daily operation of a motor vehicle as well as observe students as they enter and exit the school driveway.  Other proactive measures include the dissemination of printed materials with anti texting messages at certain key events throughout the school year and giveaways for students.
