Lahey Eyes $76 Million Expansion

The expansion includes a new, larger emergency room.

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, formerly known as Lahey Clinic, has applied to the Department of Public Health for a $76 million expansion project that would include a 45,100-square-foot emergency room at Lahey’s main campus in Burlington.

This is the third time Lahey has proposed to replace the current 12,000-square foot emergency room and build a new ER, but the hospital needed to drop the previous plans because of “lack of financing and competing needs,” reported the Boston Globe.

In addition to state review, Lahey still needs to go through the local permitting processes and raise funds. The hospital has raised $32 million for the project so far, according to the Globe.

Lahey has had a busy year. It had a rebranding from Lahey Clinic to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center and signed a deal with Winchester Hospital, which is currently being reviewed by the state.
