Grand Opening of Keurig Store on Friday

The Keurig Coffee Company is opening its first ever retail store in the Burlington Mall.

Coffee lovers who enjoy making their own brew at home will have a new destination for their K-Cup needs.

Keurig, the makers of the Keurig Coffee Makers, is opening its first ever retail store in the Burlington Mall on Friday. The official ribbon cutting starts at 9:55 a.m. and the official grand opening is at 10 a.m. The store will also be serving coffee samples to those in line starting at 8:30 a.m. and providing free samples all day.

The first 100 people in line will receive a free Keurig brewer. The Keurig store is located on the first floor near Macy's. Customers are encouraged to use the entrance between Macy's and Nodstroms.

There was a pre-opening demonstration on Thursday evening and Burlington Patch was there to check out the new store. See our picture gallery of the new location and a temporary display set up featuring Keurig coffee maker prototypes and some upcoming new products.

The first thing one will notice when entering the 1,900 square foot retail location is the ambiance and atmosphere. The store is very colorful, well organized and packed full of coffee makers and a wide variety of coffees, teas, hot chocolate selections and other type of hot beverages. In total the Keurig store about 180 varieties of beverages from multiple suppliers.

The store also features wall-mounted touchscreen computers that allow customers to learn more information about the coffee makers and beverage varieties. A customer can learn more information about certain types of coffees and, because each category of beverage such as "dark roast," "decaf," and "teas" is clearly marked, go and find that K-Cup to try.

Keurig Senior Vice President of Partners Mark Wood said a lot of thought when into the design of the new store.

"We wanted to create a space that was modern and sophisticated but also comfortable," he said. "That was the balance we were going for. We also wanted the store to be upscale because we see our company as upscale."

Wood said Keurig, a subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee, decided to open its first retail store in Burlington for a variety of reasons. The first, he said, was Burlington's location right off the Route 128 technology corridor. The second is that the company has moved many of its divisions to an office building on South Avenue and is currently constructing the second building of its new headquarters on South Avenue. Wood said that building is set to open up next summer.

Having the new store near the company's new headquarters also make it easier to use the store as an experiment, Wood said. He said the plan is to have employees at HQ to visit the store and learn what customers are enjoying and what could be improved. He also said that information will be shared with the company's retail partners, such as Kohl's, Walmart and Macy's.
