Privateering During the Revolution; A Look at Bravery at Sea

The Burlington Historical Society will host Prof. Richard St. Pierre who will discuss private citizens taking on the British war ship during the Revolutionary War.

The following is a release from Mary Nohelty, President of the Burlington Historical Society:

Professor Richard St. Pierre, of will be the guest speaker at our September meeting.  We will learn how the British warships were disrupted around the seaside town of Salem during the Revolutionary War.  We have, of course, heard about the Salem witches living in this fascinating town; but some of us never heard about the brave citizens of Salem standing up to the British in armed private ships cruising against the warships of the enemy.  Privateering during the Revolutionary War will be a most interesting subject…one you don’t want to miss!

Burlington Historical Society’s September 6 meeting will be sponsored by Bay Path College’s Burlington Campus.  Bay Path College offers a “One-Day-A-Week”, Saturday Degree Program on the Burlington Campus, designed for today’s busy women and Master’s Programs in Special Education and Applied Behavioral Analysis for men and women.  For more information on Bay Path call 781-272-0222, or email – burlington@baypath.educ.
