Aly Raisman Scoring Well So Far in Dancing with the Stars Competition

Judges' scores have Raisman and her dancing partner in second place at the start of the season.

Needham's Aly Raisman and her dancing partner Mark Ballas got off to a great start this week with feedback — and scores — from Dancing with the Stars judges.

Raisman trained at the Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club in Burlington.

The rankings: the dancing duo got a 7 from each of the three judges, for a total of 21. Which sets them up for the rest of the DWTS competition, which resumes on Monday, in second place.

Two other dancer pairs also scored 21 points, but only one pair scored more points: 16-year old Disney star Zendaya Coleman and her partner scored 8s from all three judges for the top score of 24.

The competition resumes on Monday, where everyone will dance once more before one of the dancing couples — with the lowest ranking — will be the first to leave until finally only one winning couple is left at season's end.

Rankings are figured by both judges' scores and viewers' votes.

Tuesday night's DWTS was largely a recap of Monday night's dancing, with some fresh b-roll of the professional dancers and their celebrity partners training and rehearsing.

Raisman was one of four athletes paired with professional dancers in Season 16 of DWTS. One sports website reviewer said Raisman turned in the best of the athletes' performances (the other athletes competing: skater Dorothy Hamill, boxer Victor Ortiz and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones).

Monday night's program was ratings winner of the night, according to The Wrap. That's apparently up from last fall, but down from last spring.
