Burlington Patch has learned that someone has vandalized the sign at the Burlington Islamic Center.

According to a blog post by State Rep. Kenneth Gordon, someone apparently spray-painted "U.S.A!" over a sign for the center.

“There is absolutely no place for this type of disrespect in our community,” said Rep. Gordon. “Especially on this 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s ‘We Have a Dream’ speech, we must stand together as a society and condemn these despicable acts.”

“I find it offensive that someone has used a reference to our great country as a tool to send a message of intolerance,” Gordon continued. “Anyone who understands what “USA” really stands for would realize it is a symbol of peace, inclusion and respect for people of all faiths.”

Gordon plans to attend the 1 p.m. service Friday afternoon at the Mosque as a show of support and asks community members to show their support as well, according to the blog post.

Aron, the tenets of the First Amendment are exactly what folks like CAIR are trying to dismantle through their attempt to outlaw criticism of Islam and instill Sharia Law. This is taking place in other nations as well. For over 200 years Atheists have been free to criticize and mock Judaism and Christianity in America and even portray obscene pictures and art displays against those religions without retribution and threats against his/her life. What if an Atheist did the same in a Muslim country where they are really free to "practice their religion" ???
David Livingston August 30, 2013 at 10:36 AM
mmm I wonder what people would say if this was vandalism against the local synagog instead of the local mosque? Or local catholic church ? Mike -why dont you name me a religion that does not dream of having the whole world follow its creed ? and look up Dominionism while you are at it :-)
Mike Ramirez August 30, 2013 at 10:48 AM
David, I am in no way condoning the act of anyone spraying graffiti on any building, fence, sign post, train, subway car, etc. Yes, indeed, that is an outright act of vandalism which is punishable by laws with applicable fine and/or incarceration. Whoever sprayed the Mosque should be held accountable for the act of vandalism. They should know better and should be aware that they have broken a law pertinent to their jurisdiction. And, yes, I agree that all man-made religions want to convert the entire world if even by force and kill or excommunicate those who stray away from the "faith". The Roman Catholic Inquisitions and Christian Crusades may claim to be representative of Christianity but in the New Testament, Jesus never advocated forced conversions.
Amir August 30, 2013 at 10:57 AM
For Aron Levi. Answer me please. Would you appreciate Muslims praying in masses in the middle of the day, bringing other people's lives to a halt in the streets of say, Paris?
Aron Levy August 30, 2013 at 11:03 AM
Amir, seeing as they pray in mosques or at their workplaces, and not in the middle of the street, I have no issue with it. Even if they laid down their prayer mats on the sidewalk, that causes no harm. Why does their praying somehow offend you? They are praying to the same god as we Jews and the Christians.
Aron Levy August 30, 2013 at 11:04 AM
Also Amir, you have no connection to Burlington. Please go troll someone else.
Mike Ramirez August 30, 2013 at 11:09 AM
Aron, Muslims are NOT praying to the "same God" as the Judeo-Christian faith holds firm in their belief. Read the theological comparisons either through your own personal research or see the difference that the info in my treatise exposes at http://www.Starman3000.com
Aron Levy August 30, 2013 at 11:30 AM
That's where you're wrong, Mike. And that's why I don't trust your 'treatise.'
Mike Ramirez August 30, 2013 at 11:39 AM
Proof that the Islamic God, Al'lah, is NOT the same as Yahweh: For starters, what color is the heifer that is supposed to be used for sacrifice? Here are the discrepancies plus two more that prove the god of Islam is not the ONE of the Tanakh: 1.) What color? Torah: Numbers 19:1-9: Red Heiffer / Qur’an 2.062: Yellow Heiffer 2.) Where were Adam and Eve first created? Torah: Genesis: Adam & Eve created on earth / Qur’an S 2.034: Adam & Eve created as spirits in heaven and Allah commands the angels to bow down to Adam S 07.11-24 /S 38.71-74 (The Islamic Adam & Eve are then cast down to earth to live because of disobedience) 3.) What instruction was given to Moses to bring forth water? Torah: Numbers 20:7-12, God instructs Moses to “Speak” to the rock to bring forth water. Rather than speak, Moses strikes the rock and is chastised by God for doing so. Qur’an S 2.060 and S 7.159: Allah instructs Moses to strike the rock with his staff to bring forth water. No disciplinary action against Moses which contradicts the account given in the Torah Not the same God at all!
Aron Levy August 30, 2013 at 11:43 AM
Right. That completely proves it. An untrained dilettante versus every comparative religion scholar with whom I've ever spoken. Why aren't you teaching at a university, Mike? Obviously you're smarter than EVERYONE else simply because you found these minute descrepencies! Have you maybe considered that these holy books were written BY MEN and NOT BY GOD?
robbinsfarm August 30, 2013 at 11:56 AM
such a small small percentage of Muslims are radicalized and they don't speak for millions of other peace loving Muslims.
Aron Levy August 30, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Robbinsfarm, for once you're almost right. There are nearly TWO BILLION peaceful Muslims worldwide. The radicalized few represent a percentage so small as to be statistically irrelevant. (Now this is the last time I will ever acknowledge your existence. Go troll somebody else.)

Aron, in 629CE, during one of Muhammad's final military victories, he conquered the Jewish stronghold of Khaybar. Muhammad placed Jewish Rabbis under house arrest and instructed them to help translate the Torah from Hebrew into Arabic. The Jewish Rabbis (wise as they were) cooperated in the translation but built in some "false flags" so that when Muhammad tried to convince the Jewish population that he was a true "prophet of God" these discrepancies would stick out like a sore thumb. Take the comparative verses that I gave as examples and show them to your Rabbi. Why does the Torah differ from the Qur'an in the examples that I gave? The Qur'an does NOT believe in the same as Jews; the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Rather, Islam is a mix of false interpretations taken from Judaism and Christianity while being added into Muhammad's tribal worship of the moon god, Al'lah, the god of the Quraysh tribe from which he belonged. Muhammad wanted to usurp and reign supreme over the monotheistic faith and that's why he declared that he was the "last and final prophet of God" and how dare anyone ever challenge him.

AronLevy, As much time as yoiu seem to spend here you really need to get a real live outside of your little screen.
Drivestun August 30, 2013 at 04:44 PM
Educate yourselves on the pseudo-religion of islam and it's teachings and you will discover your enemy. They are not here to assimilate. They are not here to be your friend.
robbinsfarm August 30, 2013 at 07:37 PM
it's really not a surprise some teenagers did this !!! They do stupid stuff all the time !! right Lever ??
Jonathan Pratte August 30, 2013 at 11:41 PM
Per Mr. Jay Stern; "Further, Islam is not a religion. It is thuggery masquerading as religion to infiltrate and destroy Western Civilization." So said the Jews regarding Christianity as they had Jesus of Nazareth crucified at the cross for speaking what they believed to be blasphemy. My good people, history has truly repeated itself and humankind has not learned from its mistakes. This religion, that religion who gives a crap!!!! These are people are human beings that just like someone burning down a church had a crime committed against there place of worship. Now I am not saying it is a crime to love your country, I served her proudly in the USAF, however that does not give one the right to choose the wrong media to adorn their feelings on.....wrong is wrong!!!! If you read the Bill of Rights (yes this is an actual document not just inward feelings people), the 1st Amendment reads as such: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Essentially Muslims have the EXACT same rights as the rest of us in regards to where, how and when they worship. To deny them these rights is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and by the way I support Gay Marriage, Gun Control, and our President. Plus I'm Christian so there you go....
Starla August 31, 2013 at 03:35 AM
Islam can hardly be called a religion of peace.
Maureen Wil August 31, 2013 at 05:48 AM
Ignorant people say racist comments on churches, so it's no different then any other church. So, lets not make a big deal because it's an Islam church.
Jonathan Pratte August 31, 2013 at 06:32 AM
Starla, The way Christians are talking lately either can Christianity. We hate our own due to different denominations. If anyone disagrees with what christian's think they are immediately shunned. Religion as whole is flawed due to the fact that the one that wrote them down was flawed to begin with. There is no such idea as the perfect religion, it is a worthwhile and noble thought but ultimately it is a figment of our imaginations, a flaw in the human psyche. As a christian I see all of this hate spewed online in these conversations by both sides and I begin to wonder if religion itself is the root of most evil. Religion gives a reason to conspire against those that don't think like us, but then tells us to love thy neighbor. Religion is great for spreading moral values and teaching ethics, however it takes commonsense to decipher right and wrong and unfortunately many people lack this one essential item.
Mike Ramirez August 31, 2013 at 09:14 AM
Jonathan, I agree that individual Muslims should have the rights guaranteed to them as provided by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights governing America. However, Islam is more than just a "religion" when it calls for its followers to assist in the eventual overthrow of host countries in order to advance the cause of the Islamic faith. Then, it is no longer a "religion" but a seditious movement that becomes, as termed, a "foreign and domestic enemy" of this country. That is the way things are headed in Europe, Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Individual Muslims have no real rights under their Sharia Law and as I pointed out in earlier posts, Muslims in America would actually lose the rights that you and I enjoy when and if the Islamic leaders convince our courts to allow Muslims in America to be governed by the laws of their "religion". Additionally, Islam does not believe in the same God or Jesus Christ as described in the New Testament. Muslims are obligated to live by the standards of their prophet, Muhammad, who declared himself above all other "prophets and messengers" sent to mankind. While Jesus stated to "put away the sword," Muhammad stated that peace is found under the shades of the sword and he advocated the subjugation of Jews, Christians, Atheists and any non- Muslim. Muslims are allowed to pray and worship under American laws but when they act out the tenets of their faith that call for hatred toward and subjugation of Jews, Christians and Atheists and when they act out their faith by detonating bombs, flying planes into buildings and killing any Muslim who wants to leave the Islamic faith, then you have to ask: Should they be allowed to exercise their religion in this manner because it is their "right" to do so as you believe? After all, Muslims are taught that this world has been made for them alone and all other people are to eventually be forced to convert or be killed. That is the practice of their faith now in the 21st century as it has been since the 7th century. Love Muslims, pray for them that the Truth of Christ would prevail over the religious control that does not allow them to "love thy neighbor".

USA, a message of intolerance?! Hello?! Mr. Gordon do you realize what you wrote?
Russ Leasure September 02, 2013 at 02:41 PM
It is people like Gordon is a traitor to his country!! You will soon stand trail !!
Aron Levy September 02, 2013 at 02:48 PM
Since you fools really don't understand use of 'USA' as an implicit threat, here's some background: http://www.loonwatch.com/2013/08/islamic-center-of-burlington-sign-vandalized/
Sue Francks September 02, 2013 at 03:31 PM
Rep. Gordon really made a leap in his charge against a "religion." What this was is an act of vandalism by the town thugs and nothing more. And for the person that thinks that all the Muslims here should have the same Constitutional rights we do, is clearly out of the loop. The President is going to pass the immigration bill and make the U.S. a Muslim nation by 2016. THEN Muslims will start demanding Sharia law next. Don't believe me? Just wait and see..
Aron Levy September 02, 2013 at 03:42 PM
Hey Sue, reread the First Amendment, specifically the Establishment Clause. Then rethink your idiotic opinion. And how do you explain all the hate crimes committed against Muslims and the Sikhs idiots like you mistake for Muslims?
Justin A Round September 02, 2013 at 07:56 PM
Hey Gordon - ISLAM IS NOT A PEACEFUL PRACTICE - Where to YOU get off dropping names?!! MLK was not an Islamic, he has NOTHING TO DO with Islam, he was a CHRISTIAN and a REPUBLICAN! - YES SIR, A REPUBLICAN CHRISTIAN, WHO LOVED THIS NATION. A Center for Islam and its practices have no place in THE USA!
Aron Levy September 02, 2013 at 07:59 PM
So many sock puppets. How many of you 'people' have actually ever met a Muslim?
robbinsfarm September 02, 2013 at 09:24 PM
