'Do Not Enter' Signs to Be Placed on Middlesex Turnpike Extension

The Burlington Department of Public Works has put up new signs at the entrance to the Middlesex Turnpike Extension to help drivers get used to the new road configuration.

According to a release, starting the week of July 22, “Do Not Enter” signs and barricades will be installed on the Middlesex Turnpike Extension at Bedford Street as part of a 1-year trial program.

"With the opening of the New Middlesex Turnpike across the MITRE Fields, traffic and heavy trucking continue to drive down the Middlesex Turnpike Extension expecting that the road continues, they become lost in the neighborhood, and not only is this a safety concern, but also a nuisance to the residents who live there," the release states.

Please be advised that this restriction is an approved traffic regulation that applies to everyone, commuters as well as neighborhood residents, and is enforceable by the Burlington Police Department.

"Again, this is a temporary restriction that will be re-evaluated in 6 months and at 1-year, at which time we anticipate drivers will become accustomed to the new traffic patterns," The DPW states. "At the end of the 1-year trial period a determination will be made to either remove the signs or extend the restriction for longer period."
