Mary Cummings Park is Under Attack

This email from The Friends of Mary Cummings Park came in this morning:

Mary Cummings Park is once again under attack from the City of Boston.

City Councilor Josh Zakim has entered an order for a hearing to begin the process of breaking Mary Cummings will and selling the park. An identical effort was turned back in 2007, but the park is again threatened. Everyone who cares about the park needs to contact friends, elected officials, and interested parties to stop this action.

The City accepted the will and trust and is bound to either live up to it, or pass the trust to another entity who will uphold it.

Didn’t we sign an agreement with Boston to lease part of the land? Now they are trying to break the will. This doesn’t surprise me at all!

It's a shame that the woman left this park in trust to Boston because she should have known doing something like that would never work out. Burlington is not part of Boston and Boston is not interested in helping Burlington.

The will is tightly bound to it's use for "recreation only". Boston (Mr. Zakim) will not win this.
