As McDaniel is known to be one of the leading balloon artists in New England, he is a salesman by day who lives in New Hampshire. Jim Manning who was helping McDaniel set up for his show said, “He can make about a thousand different sculptures.” As McDaniel has won numerous twisting competitions, Manning, who is also a balloon twister said they met roughly five years ago at a Balloon Jam where various different balloon twisters …
The following is a release from the Burlington Mall: Tim Gunn, renowned fashion industry expert, co-host and mentor of Project Runway and Chief Executive Officer of Liz Claiborne Inc. was at the Burlington Mall on Saturday, March 17 to show local residents “How to Make it Work!” Gunn greeted fans and offered fashion advice on the latest styles and trends with the debut of 2012’s Lucky Brand Jeans Collection. Guests who purchased $100 or more at Lucky Brand Jeans were able to meet Gunn and receive a photo with the fashion guru.
Last year at this time, folks all over the region were digging themselves out after a major snowstorm buried the East Coast Dec. 26-27, with winds reaching up to 95 mph and snowfall up to 24" in some areas. On Tuesday, the Burlington Public Library ran an event where kids got the chance to make their own holiday decorations including ornaments, cards, wreaths, and pictures. The event was run by Children's Librarian, Molly Collins. The Library also has other upcoming holiday and children's events such as storytimes and other craft programs. Though a strange October snowstorm caused trick-or-treating to be delayed this year, the ghouls, ghosts and goblins of Burlington had their chance to quest out in search of candy last Friday. From what we've seen so far, the children of Burlington are quite creative with their Halloween costumes. Who could expect snow before Halloween? Well, despite the weather, which was an icy rain Saturday afternoon, Burlington residents still turned up for Spooktacular 2011 at Simonds Park. The Halloween event, which marked its second year this weekend, is put on by the Burlington Recreation Department, The Rotary Club of Burlington and the Burlington High School Rotary Interact Club. People Helping People was also on hand accepting cash and food donations and area businesses, including B-Good, the Rainforest Café, AMC Theaters, TD North, True North Coffee and Nordstroms were there handing out …
The following is a release from the Burlington Mall: The Burlington Mall hosted Simon Fashion Now at the end of Boston Fashion Week, on Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. The two-day fashion event was sponsored by Salem Five Bank, which recently opened a boutique banking concept at Burlington Mall. Burlington's new Memorial School was opened this past weekend to allow members of the community a chance to tour the facility and see the newly completed building. People were coming in and out all throughout the day, some going on guided tours and others just wandering around checking out the new school. Burlington Patch was also there, and we present a virtual tour of the new school. Finally, the open house began with the unveiling of two plaques in memory of Burlington soldiers lost during international conflicts. Hundreds of people came out to the Burlington Town Commons on Sunday to see the field filled with big rigs, fire engines, tractors, police cruisers and other large vehicles. It was the 14th Annual Municipal Truck Day in Burlington. People were invited to come to the commons to not only see the trucks, but to blow the horn, sit in the driver’s seat, and look the truck all over. Many took advantage and children and adults alike could be seen climbing into and onto the big rigs and checking out the giant tires and impressive engines of the large trucks. It was a lovely Saturday afternoon for People Helping People and b.good restaurants fund raiser for the Burlington Food Pantry. The smell of burgers sizzling to perfection, kids dancing up a storm to some classic rock jams, money being collected to help out those less fortunate. By all accounts the charitable event that took place Saturday, September 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Burlington commons was a win-win for all those involved. Hundreds of people came to the Burlington Town Commons on Sunday during a bright September day, much like a day 10 years ago, to remember those lost in the tragic attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Town of Burlington remembered the events of 9/11, ten years ago, with a special memorial ceremony to honor those lost and support the family members affected by the attacks. The ceremony also paid tribute to the brave first responders, firefighters and police officers who risked, and in many cases gave, all to rescue those trapped in the Twin Towners and the Pentagon. This Wednesday 416 students and 64 staff returned to Fox Hill Elementary School in Burlington to kick-off the 2011-12 school year. Principal, Ellen Johnson, was on-hand to welcome students as well as new staff - a new librarian, music teacher, reading specialist and special education teacher. A new position this year for the school is also a school psychologist. Over the summer bathrooms at Fox Hill were renovated, the playground resurfaced and new basketball equipment added. The Burlington Town Commons and Simonds Park were hopping on Saturday, Aug. 6 as thousands came out to enjoy fun, games, entertainment and food during Celebrate Burlington Day 2011. The day offered a wide variety of activities, including games, Moon Bounce inflatables, entertainment acts and musical concerts, laser tag and a lot more. It was a pleasant afternoon as members of the Burlington Pride Special Olympics Team took to the fields behind the Community Life Center on 61 Center Street and played a series of softball games. All told, 240 volunteers and participants enjoyed the day, along with a crowd of about 100 encouraging this third annual tournament by cheering on their friends and family. The event was headed by the Burlington Rotary Club and the Burlington Recreation Department who managed to get Shaw's, Pepsi and the local Knights of Columbus to sponsor the event. There's no two ways about it, this week has been a scorcher. Almost makes you look forward to cooler days and colder climates. The young boys of summer were out in full force Thursday, July 15 to kick off the 11-Year Old Eastern Massachusetts Cal Ripken State Tournament at Simonds Park on 1 Bedford Street. Ten teams (Revere, Riverside-Bradford, Westford, Quincy, Wrentham, Burlington, Raynham, Marshfield, Marblehead and Falmouth) gathered from 3-8 p.m. to have a cookout, socialize, practice, and have a series of baseball skills competitions to kick off the tourney. Now that school is out for the year we at Burlington Patch decided to highlight the Burlington High School's year in sports. Families of 8th grade students packed the gym at Marshall Simonds Middle School for graduation ceremonies. Many students were honored for their outstanding academic achievements and extracurricular activities. Diplomas were handed out by Principal Dick Connors and Team Leader Noreen Abati.
