Bites Nearby: Panera Testing New Concept in Bedford

A different kind of Panera has opened in neighboring Bedford. You can still get your sandwiches, soups, salads and baked goods, but don’t expect to sit down and be one of a dozen or so patrons camped out and plugged in for an hour or better at the café. As the sign out front says in no uncertain terms, the Middlesex Turnpike location is focused on takeout and delivery business. That's not to say you can't walk in and order a sandwich here, because you can. But the idea, according to the company, is to see if a model based more on pickup, delivery and online orders can be viable. “It’s a different kind of concept,” said Linn Parrish, vice president for public relations. “The idea is to try out this kind of concept to see if it can work.” …

Medical Company Opens New Office in Burlington

According to the Lowell Sun, Baylis Medical recently opened its newest offices on Mall Road.

A new Burlington business opened its doors on Tuesday, bringing a new company to Mall Road. According to a Lowell Sun report, Baylis Medical held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday afternoon in their new office location. The facility is located at 50 Mall Road, Suite G18. Baylis Medical's website says that the company has "been involved in a number of medical firsts, both in the Canadian market as well as the worldwide market" over the last 25 years. The company creates medical equipment, much having to do with cardiology and radiology. By opening a Burlington office, Baylis now has five locations. The company's headquarters is in Montreal with other offices in Vancouver, London and Mississauga, Ontario. Among those at Tuesday's opening …

Cambridge Savings Bank to be Part of Northwest Park Development

The Nordblom Company announced this week plans to include the bank in the 3rd Avenue project.

With all of the new businesses coming into Northwest Parkit will be helpful to have a place to do some banking in between spending money. Well, that is in the plans. According to a release from the Burlington-based Nordblom Company, they have completed a 3,300 square foot lease with Cambridge Savings Bank for a location on 3rd Avenue. Located just off of Middlesex Turnpike, 3rd Ave is the dining and entertainment heart of the 4.6 million square foot Northwest Park mixed-use redevelopment.  The 3rd Ave retail-walking street will be anchored by Wegmans and Kings Bowl. “Nordblom Company has an excellent and long-standing business relationship with Cambridge Savings Bank and we are very excited to house the bank’s newest branch at 3rd Ave,” …

Burlington Town Meeting to Take up Article on 'Citizens United' Decision

Article 22 of the annual May Town Meeting states the corporations do not have the same rights as people. What do you think?

There is a unique item that will likely be taken up during the third session of Burlington's annual May Town Meeting tonight. Town Meeting reconvenes at 7:30 p.m. in the Burlington High School auditorium tonight. Thus far Town Meeting has gotten though 17 of the 25 warrant article and it seems likely the warrant will be wrapped up tonight. Article 22, put forward by Town Meeting member Sally Willard, Precinct 4, asked members to support Constitutional amendment to "stipulate that corporations are not people and do not enjoy the First Amendment rights of people." The article, if approved, would support a resolution for an amendment to the US Constitution and, also, to direct the Board of Selectmen to send a letter indicating that support to…

Today's Patch Snap comes from the Burlington Police Department, which states: The Burlington Police Department recently received a donation from Oracle located at 10 Van de-Graaff Drive in Burlington.  Building site manager Kathy Juliano representing Oracle USA Community Partners Corporate Citizenship Organization presented Chief Michael R. Kent with a check totaling $10,400. A portion of funds will be used to purchase 3 ”state of the art” radar units which will be used enforce posted speed limits and help reduce vehicle crashes on Burlington roadways.      Also to be funded with this donation …
