Selectmen Looking for Volunteers to Serve on Board of Appeals
Do you have an interest in zoning issues? The town could use your help.
The Town of Burlington is in need of some dedicated volunteers to help fill an important board.
According to the town website, the Board of Selectmen will be making appointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals. There are 3 regular and 2 alternate positions that are available.
The Board of Selectmen is seeking residents of the Town who wish to serve their community in a volunteer capacity. The Board will be meeting on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall to interview residents who wish to seek appointment to the Board.
If you wish to consider a position please contact Pauline Gillingham at 781-270-1635 or email her at pgillingham@burlmass.org.
The purpose of the Zoning Board of Appeals is to hear and decide appeals from an adverse decision of the Building Inspector or any Town Board, to make determinations in Flood Hazard Districts, to hear and decide petitions for variances, and to issue comprehensive permits under MGL Chapter 40B.
The Zoning Board of Appeals currently meets the First and Third Tuesday of every month.

Whoa. What's the story behind this story? That's the entire board. Did they all resign? What's going on??

Whoa is right, B Springer. What IS going on?! Too bad that our officials and news people can't be more transparent.

According to this web site
http://www.burlington.org/departments/community_development/board_of_appeals.php
the board of appeals has 5 regular members and 2 alternates. So it looks like everyone is leaving except for two permanent members.
Even though the entire board does not seem to be resigning it's still a "Whoa" moment. What is going on?
My paranoid self wants to know if this could be a political move by Dave & Buster's, denied a permit a few months ago. (For the record, I would like to see D&B's here if they agree to the town's stipulations for minimizing traffic congestion and maximizing safety)

With all due respect Mr. Ellins, we cannot afford any more traffic on Middlesex Turnpike, nor congestion in Burlington. We already have more businesses than this tiny towns roads can handle. Workers at these businesses are using side roads for access. The highways (95 and 3) are at a standstill at peak times. Add the shoppers to the two very lucrative Malls on the Turnpike and we have total gridlock. You have to live on this side of town to see what has happened to our once suburban area.
D&B can locate in another town. Burlington just can't accommodate much more ! When Wegman's opens, we may have to become shut-ins or obtain Segways. The only way the Middlesex Turnpike will ever have minimized traffic congestion is if the State builds overpasses. Our Boards have not done a very good job of protecting the town's residents.
