Police: Woman Escapes Likely Rape Attempt, Suspect At Large

Burlington Police are looking for a man who assaulted a woman at the Arborwood Apartment complex on Monday.

According to a release put out last night, at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Monday Aug. 13, the Burlington Police Department received a report that a man had attacked a woman inside the parking lot of the Arborwood Apartment complex on Arboretum Way in Burlington. It appears that this was an attempted rape.

Fortunately, the victim, who had just arrived home from her night shift at work, was able to escape unharmed.

The suspect was armed with a pocket knife and is described as a white male, in his late twenties/early thirties with a clean cut face, police said. He is described as being 5'7-5'10 tall with a thin build. He was wearing a shirt with stripes and possibly a collar. He may have been wearing some kind of hat with very short brown hair.

At this time police believe this to be an isolated incident and have had no reports of similar crimes in this area or in Burlington for the past several years.

"We ask that people remain alert for any suspicious behavior and as always, we encourage residents to call the police if they see anyone suspicious in their area," police said in the release.
