Updated Oct. 30, 1:08 p.m.

We have recieved information that the power has been restored to the school.

Original Story:

Students at Francis Wyman Elementary are learning without power today.

According to a member of Superintendent Eric Conti's staff, who did not want to be named, the School Department decided to open after being told by NSTAR this morning that power would be restored early today.

All Burlington Public Schools were under a 2-hour delay this morning because of the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

However, there was an issue that delayed the restoration of power. The school representative said that as of an hour ago the issue had been identified and NSTAR is continuing to work on to restore power.

Patch was told that the school has sufficient natural light for students to be in class. The children will be served a cold lunch today.

When asked about the temperature, the school representative said that it will not be an issue as it is not very cold today and that they were not sure if the other schools had their heat going today.

The superintendent should have made the parents of the Francis Wyamn students aware of the lack of power prior to the opening of the school. Many parents only found out through other parents on Facebook. The lack of of communication is disappointing.

What about the fire alarm system? Is the system entirely operational without power. Our children should not be in any public building without adequete fire protection.

I agree with Melissa Graham! Early this afternoon, I received a robo-call about the power outage that HAD been a problem all day, but that it had been resolved and the After School Program would, in fact, be open. Good thing, because if I got a call early afternoon saying it would be closed, my daughter would have gone WHERE after school? No info out there. None....
