Deadline for Mortgage Assistance State Program is Friday

The state announced this week that a new program could help people struggling to make mortgage payments. People must apply before Friday, July 22.

State officials are looking to help Massachusetts residents pay their mortgages, and therefore stay in their homes, through a Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program. The program's goal is to help communities avoid foreclosures in the coming months.

The deadline to apply for the loan program is Friday.

"Gov. [Deval] Patrick and I are committed to doing all we can to keep people in their homes and strengthen our neighborhoods," said Lt. Gov. Tim Murray. "If you are out of work, having trouble making ends meet and facing foreclosure, this loan program has the potential to help you get back on your feet."
