Christian Book & Supply Center

A place to learn about religion and find inspiring music.

The Christian Book and Supply Center has Christian books, cds and other items, but it's the insight of owner Steve Camp that makes it a special place.

Camp owns the store with his wife Linda, while his son Bill handles the online shopping part of the business at www.christianbookandsupply.com.

Camp used to work in steel construction a long time ago. He then found a job working as a manager for a distributor of Christian books just after Bill was born.

He liked the type of work so much that he decided to open his own store with his wife. They had two stores at the time, one in Acton and one at their present location in Burlington. Camp eventually closed the Acton store to concentrate on the Burlington location and the website.

“I found out how much I didn't know”, said Camp, referring to the challenge of running a business and maintaining cash flow.

“The Burlington Mall is a big draw in this area and helps business greatly,” he added.

Although Christian Book & Supply is not a counseling center, many customers come in to talk about their problems.

Camp said a man once came in and told him about his upcoming divorce. After listening and talking to the man, Camp advised him to go home and talk to his wife, and to communicate more with her on an ongoing basis. This man did work through his marriage problems and didn't get divorced.

Christian Book & Supply carries general religious books. They do limit the amount of books they carry due to size constraints of the store, but there is a good selection. Every denomination can find something at this book store to support their religion although it's not slanted to any particular viewpoint or bias.

Being a book store with a religious theme sometimes brings in people that want to challenge Christianity.

Camp said an MIT professor came in and bought many books. His motive was to find fallacies in the Christian religion and dogma. This professor wanted to prove that Christ was not who he said he was. After the professor read all the books he bought from Camp's store, he came back to say that he couldn't find that proof he was looking for and is now a firm believer in Christianity, Camp said.

Camp compares this story to that of Josh McDowell, a well known author of Christian books. McDowell was a agnostic at one time, not believing in the value of the Christian religion. He was challenged to examine the claims of Christianity. After his study he discovered evidence for the basis and truth in Christianity and now devotes his life to writing and preaching on the Christian religion.

The internet business, a significant part of Christian Book & Supply, will be moving to Georgia in the near future, Camp said. There, there's no snow to make delivering products difficult.
