Burlington Relay for Life Thanks Teams and Corporate Sponsors

Relay for Life's Tenth Year Has 45 teams comprised of 407 participants in Its Annual Overnight Event

The following is a guest column by Ray Graber of Graber Associates:

As we approach the 2013 Burlington Relay For Life on June 1 and 2, the Relay committee and the American Cancer Society would like to acknowledge five corporate teams as well as major sponsors.

The Capital Grille, HealthEdge, Rockland Trust, Hanscom Federal Credit Union, and Fitness Together of Burlington have pulled together teams from their employees and friends to participate in the Relay for Life. These teams, as others do, host fundraisers, solicit donations from friends, relatives, and co-workers to raise as much as possible for the event.

Capital Grille General Manager, Adam Mackler commented on his team.

“We asked for volunteers to participate knowing that our employees are generous people; however we did not expect the outpouring of support," he said.

Besides participating, The Capital Grille will be cooking for the participants. This year’s menu is a surprise, but based upon last year’s deeply-discounted lobster rolls, steak tips, and desserts, we expect a sumptuous meal!

The HealthEdge team captain Adele Doyle stated, “Our firm’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle and desire to create a better environment for our staff, our neighbors and our friends, was a natural fit for the Relay.”

The Rockland Trust Team is led by Captain Allison Majane. “We are very happy to be involved in the Burlington Relay For Life for the first time. It gives us a true sense of giving back to our new community,” she comments.

“We began supporting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life many 6 years ago in honor of an employee who passed away from cancer,” recalls Paul Marotta, Hanscom FCU Chairman of the Board. “Participating in the Burlington Relay For Life is a chance to do something positive in the face of such a devastating disease. The credit union and its employees are proud to part of the event to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. ”

Team Captain Brendan Stapleton, owner of Fitness Together added, “We have supported the Relay in the past and have received a lot of joy in return; we plan to continue working with Cheryl and her team of great volunteers.”

“We are thrilled to have HealthEdge Software, Capital Grille, Rockland Trust, Hanscom Federal Credit Union, and Fitness Together Burlington involved as teams at Relay For Life. Their generosity and support of the American Cancer Society makes them true leaders in the Burlington business community,” states Cheryl Shafman, Relay Chairperson.

The Burlington Relay for Life would also like to thank the corporate sponsors who generously donated to the event. At the Silver level are Riemer and Braunstein and Herb Chambers Auto; under the Fight Back Sponsor are Grinnell Mechanical and Hanscom Federal Credit Union; the Friends of Relay sponsors include Edward Jones, Barb Davis, The Gutierrez Company, Fitness Together, and LTB Insurance; and KBA Architects contributed as an In-Kind Supporter.

“It is never being too late to start a team, volunteer, or somehow be a part of our event,” continues Shafman. “The ceremonies start at 6:00 pm on June 1st; please stop by anytime between 6 and 11 pm and see the energy that this experience creates!”

There is still time to participate! Any company that is interested in getting involved should contact Cheryl (781) 771-6410 about starting a team or sponsorship possibilities.
