Today is Friday, Sept. 14. Here are 5 things you need to know:
- Sunny and nice: Looks like a nice and comfortable day today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect sunny skies with a high near 80 degrees. Chance of showers tonight, mainly after 4 p.m., with an overnight low around 58 degrees.
- Public meeting: The Burlington Board of Health is holding a special meeting to discuss the possible condemnation of a house at 1 Mulberry Lane. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in the main meeting room on the second floor of Town Hall.
- Yoga: Roots Yoga is holding an accousting Yoga class featuring a live musician who will play guitar and sing vocals as participants work out. The class will run from 7 to 8:15 p.m. and a $15 donation to help pay for the music is suggested. Roots Yoga is also offering free Yoga classes this weekend.Find a class schedule at their web site.
- Dough raiser: "Shawls From the Heart," a Woburn-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing knitted and crocheted shawls and blankets for women undergoing extensive medical treatments is holding a fundraising event with Uno Chicago Grille today. Present a voucher when ordering a meal and the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the total to the group. Vouchers are available at www.shawlsfromtheheart.org/DoughRaiserVoucher.pdf.
- But I did not shoot the deputy: On this day in 1974, Eric Clapton's hit "I Shot the Sheriff" was named number one on the Billboard charts. The song was not the first single about crime to be a hit. "Stagger Lee," about the theft of a Stetson hat that leads to murder, has been recorded by many popular artists, and a song was also written about the assassination of President William McKinley ("White House Blues").
