Today is Monday, July 23. Here are 5 things you need to know:

  • Chance of rain, otherwise partly sunny: Looks like a mixed bag today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms, some of which could produce heavy rain. Otherwise partly sunny with a high near 88 degrees. Chance of showers and storms tonight with a low around 69.
  • Public meeting: The Burlington Recreation Commission is meeting at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at .
  • Commons fun: The Burlington Recreation Department is hosting "I am not a clown" a fun event featuring balloon twisting and storytelling at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Commons. 
  • Night sky: The Burlington Public Library is hosting the Boston Museum of Science's Night Sky program in two sessions today. The first begin at 1 p.m. and is for children ages 7 to 10. The second begins at 2 p.m. and is for children 10 and up. Registration is required. Click here for the library calendar and directions on registration
  • She's got a smile it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories: On this day in 1988, Guns N' Roses broke into the Billboard Top 40 chart with its first hit single—Sweet Child O' Mine. The group, featuring Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven Adler, focused on rock more than glam, unlike a lot of 80s bands. Sweet Child O' Mine was the second song off the massively popular Appetite for Destruction album, which also featured Welcome to the Jungle. The song began with what Slash felt was a "throwaway" riff, but has become rock legend.
