The Mad Dog 2012-2013 season began Friday December 14th with a tie on the road against Buckingham Brown and Nichols, under the coaching direction of Bill Pepicelli, Chris Marchese, Billy Pepicelli and Stephen O’Brien. The Mad Dogs are Burlington’s Middle School Hockey team, currently in the tenth successful season. Mad Dogs consist of 7th and 8th graders; their home rink is the O’Brien Rink in Woburn.
Goaltender Paul Barbieri was in net to start the game for the Mad Dog team. The first goal of the season was scored by forward Chris Mills and assisted by center Ryan O’Connor and forward Robbie Ramiriez. The second goal for the Mad Dogs was scored by O’Connor and assisted by forward Jeffrey Russo and Mills. Despite these two goals in the first period the Mad Dog team was behind 4 to 2. They kept playing hard and added two more points to the tally in period two, one from Ramirez assisted by O’Connor and defenseman Timmy Bridges and then one from Russo assisted by Ramirez and defenseman David Schorr. BBN also added to their points to keep the game interesting. Raphael DeCarlucci took the ice and was between the pipes in the second period to defend the net; helping him on defense was Matt Ryan and Tyler Gnerre. The third period was tense, the offense which included Aidan Shea, Sean Casey, Kyle Barry, Max Hovasse and Brendan McCaffery was making a push to try and pull ahead. The Mad Dog team took their first lead by adding two more goals to the scoreboard to make it 6 to 5. Another point by O’Connor, which gave him two goals for the day, assisted by Russo and defenseman Connor Desharnais. Then Russo followed him by adding his second goal of the game assisted by Mills and defenseman Cam Arrigo. It was a tight defensive battle and BBN stayed strong then tied the game with less than three minutes to close out the scoring. A 6-6 tie to start the season!!!
